Structural Bonding

With continuous advancements in chemical technology, modern structural adhesives continuously outperform more traditional boat building production methods which involve mechanical fasteners, taping or marine putty. All of which, invariably, produce a rigid brittle joint. With continuous flexing and high impact forces experienced by many marine components we’re seeing an increasing demand for flexible structural adhesives that combine exceptional tolerance to extreme shear and tear forces with high mechanical adhesion strength.

Many of the Kömmerling Marine products offer permanent elasticity, which uniformly distributes any dynamic stresses along the full length of the joint line whilst absorbing oscillation, vibration and any high impact forces found on many ocean going vessels.

Typical applications requiring high performance structural adhesives include deck to hull, keel to hull, fly bridges to deck bulkheads and the bonding of reinforcing grids to hull shells.

Korapur 940 Marine

A moisture curing, single component polyurethane adhesive sealant. Korapur 940 Marine shows good adhesion to a wide variety of substrates which include primed and painted metals, aluminium, wood, duroplastics, GRP and gel-coat. Offering permanent elasticity of joints, this high strength structural adhesive gives excellent resistance to humidity and weathering and is over-paintable once cured. Also available as a ‘Fast Cure’ option with a significant reduction in cure rate.

Körapop 954 Marine

A silane-terminated polymer, this solvent free, single component hybrid adhesive sealant has been specifically designed for exterior applications in the marine and boat building industries. It offers good resistance to humidity and weathering, and tolerateslarge fluctuations in temperatures (-40°C to +90°C).

  •      Good adhesion to mineral glass
  •      Good adhesion to zinc, aluminium, steel, wood, duroplastics and thermoplastics
  •      Overpaintable wet on wet
  •      Good resistance to humidity and weathering
  •      Excellent tolerance to temperature fluctuations, -40°C to +90°C (+120°C for short intervals)

Körapur 666 Marine

A two component, high strength, polyurethane adhesive. Solvent free, Körapur 666 Marine can be used in the production of sandwich panels using dissimilar substrates such as Rigid PVC, GRP, steel/aluminium sheets and PUR/PVC/PS-rigid foams.

  •      International Maritime Organisation Wheel approved
  •      Good resistance to humidity and weathering
  •      Good adhesion to aluminium, wood, PVC-rigid and GRP
  •      Ideal for aluminium trims, profiles and corner angles.
  •      Suitable for manufacture of sandwich panels using dissimilar substrates
  •      Good adhesion to Rigid PVC, GRP, steel/aluminium sheets and PUR/PVC/PS-rigid foam

Korapur 840

A high strength, 2 component, chemical curing polyurethane adhesive which is solvent free. Korapur 840 offers good impact resistance and has been developed for bonding metals and GRP.

  •      Good impact resistance
  •      Excellent adhesion to metal and GRP substrates

Korapox 565

A high strength, 2 component, epoxy resin. Korapox 565  can be used to bond a wide variety of dissimilar substrates including steel, aluminium, glass, ceramics, fibreglass and several thermoplastics such as rigid PVC’s and ABS. 

  •      High strength structural adhesive
  •      Good resistance to humidity and weathering
  •      Excellent tolerance to temperature fluctuations, -30°C to +120°C (+180°C for short intervals)

Note: Due to diversity of substrates, preliminary testing is always recommended.
